The Maryland Polar Bear Plunge at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis is a charity event sponsored by the Maryland State Police in support of the Special Olympics. Each January, thousands of participants of all ages are daring enough to take a dip in the wintry waters of the Chesapeake Bay. In addition to the Plunges, attendees will enjoy a full-day winter festival featuring the Robert Andrews Tuscan Spa Retreat, the Carnival FunFest tent with games, food and other displays, the Chesapeake Bayhawks Arctic Lacrosse Zone, Mickey Harris Monster Garage, the return of the Rams Head Ice Lodge, featuring two sets by DJ Pauly D, of MTV’s Jersey Shore, and Pure Boardshop’s X-Games Adventure Tent.
Date: January 28, 2012, 8 a.m.- 5 p.m.
Location: Sandy Point State Park is located on the west side of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, off U.S. Routes 50/301 at exit 32.
Registration opens at 8 a.m.
Mass Plunges will take place at both 1 and 3 p.m.

A minimum of $50 in pledges (or as a personal donation) is required in order to participate in the Maryland Polar Bear Plunge but spectators and festival-goers are welcome to attend free of charge. All participants receive a commemorative Plunge sweatshirt, and a photo gift.
