Set Sail for Clean Water

Set Sail for Clean Water

Supporting a healthy river guarantees on-the-water fun!

On April 28th, 2012 from 12 pm to 5 pm Potomac Riverkeeper hosted a day of on-the-water activities at Gangplank Marina. The main event, a community sailing race down the Washington Channel, was open to everyone, from those who had never sailed to seasoned sailors. About 50 people came out and tried their hand at the helm! Potomac Riverkeeper partner, DC Sail, was on hand with experienced staff and instructors in the boats. The vessels were 19 foot Flying Scots, stable, dry, and beginner friendly.

While not sailing, some people tried their hand at kayaking. Potomac River Outfitters gave lessons. DC Surfrider also demonstrated Stand Up paddle boarding.

Potomac Riverkeeper’s Set Sail for Clean Water was part of the Waterkeeper Alliance SPLASH Event Series, presented nationally by Toyota in partnership with national founding sponsor, KEEN. All proceeds will be used to support local work towards a pollution-free Potomac watershed and further community engagement activities.
